Lip balm making

Remember to wash your hands, tie back long hair and clean your creation station before you start!

Once you've cleaned up and are ready to go, set up your tins or tubes. Tins just need to have the lids removed and be placed on a level surface.

If you have the biodegradable card lip balm tubes, you will need to push the base inserts, to ensure they move, and then make sure they are sat correctly in the bottom of the lip balm tubes as seen here.

This method has been recently updated so may differ slightly different from the method in the kit... This method is a little easier for consistent results :)

  1. Begin by melting the wax with the blend of oils(not the flavours). The best way is to use a double boiler method. Place the wax and oil in a mixing bowl over a pan of warm-hot water, gently stir until the wax melts into a liquid.

  2. Remove from the heat and stir in the avocado butter until the butter has melted and fully becomes a liquid. You may need to return to the heat, but only a little so not to over heat.

  3. Once the mixture has become a liquid, remove from the heat if more heat was needed. If you want two different flavoured lip balms now is the time to separate your mixture into two halves.

  4. Stir in your colour and choice of flavoured oils, add more for a stronger flavour or less for a mild flavour. Approximately 0.1ml of flavour per lip balm. Stir thoroughly until the colour has completely dispersed into the mixture. You may need to put the bowl back over the warm water if the mixture starts to solidify.

  5. Now its time to pour your lovely lip balms. Ideally, your liquid lip balm needs to have cooled slightly before you pour to prevent the balm dipping in the middle. If you have tins, fill them equally. If you have tubes, its best to use the included pipettes to avoid spilling the liquid lip balm onto the outside of the tubes. Carefully add about 1ml of lip balm to each tubes and allow it to set, this will help to prevent leaks. Use about 3/4's of your lip balm mixture to fill the lip balm tubes and allow to set for 10-15mins. When it sets, you may notice a dip in the middle of the lip balms, this happens in the cooling process. Warm the remaining lip balm mixture, and top up all of your lip balm tubes. You will notice a gap at the top of the tubes. These tubes will hold about 12 grams of lip balm each, and we are making 10g lip balms. As previously mentioned, its best to leave that gap at the top to avoid the liquid lip balm soaking into the out card layer of the tubes.

  6. Allow the lip balms to cool and set overnight.

  7. Your personal handmade lip balms are ready.

  8. To use the lip balm tubes, push the base of the lip balm tube up. If your fingers don't fit inside the tube, you can use a key or pen lid.

  9. Lip balm making achievement unlocked.
