How To Make A Wire Wrapped Rose Ring

Fancy making a super Easy wire wrapped rose ring?

You will need:

1. Wire, but which wire?

-Aluminium wire is super soft, so its perfect for practice wire, but it is a bit soft and wont hold its form when you make wire wrapped rose rings.

-Copper wire is fairly soft, comes in lots of tarnish resistant plated colours and is affordable, making it really popular. I add copper wire to my wire ring making starter kits as it is perfect for beginners.

-925 Sterling Silver wire. This is easy to use like copper wire, but does come with a hefty price tag and is not tarnish resistant, meaning it needs regular polishing to keep it bright and shiny. So, probably best to get lots of practice in before splashing the cash for silver, as you dont want to waste this wire.

-Steel wire is my favourite. I use it as it's bright silver in colour, firm enough to hold its form and tarnish resistant. However, because it is fairly firm wire, it's difficult to use for beginners.

2. Wire Gauge:

When buying wire, you will need to choose the best thickness of your wire for your project.

I use 20 gauge or 0.8mm wire for my rose rings, but I recommend 18 gauge or 1mm wire if you have some experience and would like a thicker wire ring. Thicker wire is always a bit firmer, so slightly more difficult to use too.

3. A tape measure to measure you wire.

4. Some pliers to cut your wire and they are useful if you want to use thicker wire, as it really helps with forming your ring.

5. A ring mandrel.

6. A ring measure, to measure your fingers or thumbs.

You will need about 28cm of wire.
